The LWVMC, MCFL, and Rize Marin (formerly Performing Stars of Marin) are hosting a screening of the recently rediscovered BBC documentary The Mood of America. This film chronicles the desegregation of Marin County schools, focusing on the aftermath of the voluntary integration plan implemented in 1965 within the Sausalito Marin City School District. Through the voices of students, parents, school board members, and Principal Sidney Walton, it offers an intimate look at the challenges, hopes, and tensions surrounding this early effort toward educational equity. Perhaps the most striking aspect of this documentary—filmed more than fifty years ago—is how familiar many of the emotions and frustrations still feel today.
