LWVP Book Club: Cheap Speech by Rick Hasen
Join us Tuesday, April 19th at 4pm for the LWVP book club meeting to discuss Cheap Speech: How Disinformation Poisons Our Politics—and How to Cure It by Richard L. Hasen. You may remember Professor Hasen from our Defending Democracy Series discussion on April 5th.
His book addresses the following questions and more. What can be done consistent with the First Amendment to ensure that American voters can make informed election decisions and hold free elections amid a flood of virally spread disinformation and the collapse of local news reporting? What can we do to minimize disinformation campaigns aimed at suppressing voter turnout and convincing millions to doubt the integrity of U.S. elections?
Feel free to join us even if you have not yet read or finished the book. The discussion will have broader relevance than just a rehashing of the concepts in the book and we may just inspire you to grab a copy and read it for yourself!
