Needed: Advocates for Long-Term Care Residents

Learn about Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program at Sept. 22 online session

San Rafael, CA – The Marin County Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is seeking volunteers to advocate for the quality of life and quality of care for residents in nursing homes and assisted living residences.

An informational presentation will take place via Zoom on September 22, 2021 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. This will be an opportunity to learn more about the program and the rewards of helping vulnerable members of the long-term care community.

Volunteers are an important part of the Ombudsman program and are expected to make at least a one-year commitment and donate a minimum of 10 hours of their time each month. After acceptance into the program, volunteers will be provided a 36-hour certification training program that includes visits to assisted living and nursing homes.

The certification training provides information on the long-term care setting, the aging process, resident rights, complaint investigation and resolution, community resources, and other related topics. It also helps participants to understand the role of the Ombudsman as resident advocate. This training will begin in October 2021.

The Marin County Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is a service of the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services, Aging and Adult Services. Certified Ombudsman staff and volunteers are authorized by state and federal laws to have a presence in nursing homes and assisted living residences and to advocate for quality of life and quality of care for their residents.
