On November 8, voters around the country will trek to the polls to select a President. In California, 17 State ballot propositions will be decided. Congressional, State and local officials will be chosen, and tax measures will be passed or rejected.
And the League of Women Voters’ intrepid Voter Service volunteers will breathe a sigh of relief that all the Pro/Con presentations (which reached hundreds of Marin citizens) are finally over! Special thanks to Annie Layzer, Veda Florez and the almost dozen others who participated in the “Pros and Cons” research and presentations throughout the election season.
Now what? Lest you think that getting ready for the election has been the only (albeit critically important) task facing the League, here are some other bits of news to carry us forward for the next several months:
Looking ahead to long-term financial stability for our League, the Board has authorized the formation of a Development Task Force to develop a full program designed to improve our revenue stream. If finance, budgeting or financial health is your thing, you’ll want to come to our Task Force kickoff meeting, scheduled for Monday, November 14 at 10:30 a.m. in the office.
On Monday, November 9, California League President Helen Hutchison will lead our monthly membership/action meeting with a “basics refresher course” – for our many new members and for our longtime members who want to be reminded what a “study” really means and what a “position” looks like.
Our December Membership/action meeting, scheduled for Monday, December 5, will focus on transportation in Marin. Speakers from the Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM) will join us. (See p. 1) You won’t want to miss this one!
And believe it or not, plans have already underway for the annual program planning meeting (February), the Spring Gala (April), and nominations for next year’s Board election (June). This year’s Board and committees are planning ahead! Excitement at our meetings is palpable; come join us!
