International Relations/Great Decisions, 2012 Topics Announced

The League’s International Relations/Great Decisions group announces the topics for 2012.  The specific calendar will be announced as programs are scheduled. 

Anyone interested may attend the meetings, held the last Monday of the month in the League’s conference room in San Rafael, 4340 Redwood Highway, Suite F 138 (from the south, Terra Linda turnoff, east frontage road, turn right at five tall Palms).  Programs begin at noon,coffee and conversation at 11:30.  For more information go to the International Relations link at this site and/or contact the group chairperson, at jonsam@msn.com.

Middle East Realignment: What lies ahead for the Middle East’s transition to Democracy?

Promoting Democracy: What role does democracy-promotion have in U.S. foreign policy today?  What are the best methods?

Mexico:  How is Mexico addressing its cross-border challenges and what is the nature of its north-south  foreign relations?

Cybersecurity:  International cybercrime and authoritarian control of networks are among the new hallenges facing governments and the private sector. How are democratic governments responding?

Exit from Afghanistan and Iraq:  What are the US exit strategies and how can we continue to promote stability and reduce terrorism in the region?

State of the Oceans:  What is the impact of climate change on the world’soceans, and how can we, working with other nations, address the challenges?

Indonesia: How can Indonesia continue its path of growth, reform, prosperityand democracy?  What is its role in the global community?

Energy Geopolitics:  Instability in the Middle East, the vulnerability of nuclear power, and increasing use of energy by developing countries— how are we and  other nations dealing with this changed landscape?
